We came to Maine from Massachusetts where we met and married. We have been engaged in building homes and developing new neighborhoods in the Wells area. When we came to Messiah we were not as connected in relationship with others as we are now and not as spiritually mature. We had walls built up that held us back from being real. We just went to church, stayed to ourselves and left right after the service for fear that anyone would get to know us. Jesus used the people at Messiah to reach out; they saw us at our worst and still loved us and that helped our walls start to crumble. They valued us and walked with us through past hurt into healing and into finding our joy, peace, and purpose. The discipleship program here at Messiah has helped us to form a closer relationship with God and those around us. What we value about the Messiah community is the other-focused way of thinking. The love and compassion for others are evident and is demonstrated in helping those within the church and in the community. They really care about people who are struggling.
